OBSIDIAN AND IVORY
ABOUT THE PIECE
This black and white marble side table holds more significance than just being a product of my design and construction. It serves as a reflection of my identity—a blend of biracial, Cuban and Black heritage, and a constant exploration of dualities. Instead of allowing these contrasts to clash, I’ve intentionally designed them to coexist harmoniously, creating a dialogue between them. The natural veining in the marble reminds me that identity is not a straightforward concept; it’s a layered, imperfect, and beautiful tapestry. By building this table by hand, I reclaim the narrative of my existence, demonstrating that I am not merely composed of individual pieces, but capable of shaping them into something functional, purposeful, and tangible.
